Neighborhood Guide

Murray Hill

The Murray Hill section of the East Side of Manhattan is a small area located between Fifth Avenue and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Drive (FDR), and 34th and 42nd Streets. It is the nicest residential area closest to the Midtown business district, combining elegant townhouses on the side streets and attractive apartment buildings, with some good clubs and a great small museum. Murray Hill is named after Robert Murray who had a house at Park Avenue and 37th Street during the Revolution.

The neighborhood has excellent transportation as it’s right in the middle of Manhattan. The residents are mostly professionals in their 30's and 40's who enjoy the beauty and calm of the area. Murray Hill is very stable - people move here and stay. Cafes and shops abound. The area boasts some of the most spectacular buildings in the city. Two of them, the Morgan Library and the Beaux Arts building, provide Murray Hill with considerable elegance and style.
